I ve had a lot of requests for directions for my method of using a facing to finish an art quilt instead of a traditional binding so i decided it was time for a tutorial.

I found a good way to do this and added my own twist to it.
We ll sew the strip to the quilt using a 1 4 seam allowance leaving a 1 facing on the back side of the quilt.
I use 2 1 2 wide strips pressed wrong sides together along the length to yield a double layered strip 1 1 2 wide.
You need one facing strip for each edge of your quilt.
Flip over the facing strip on the top of the quilt and finger press to get a nice edge.
I usually try and have a backing that matches the front as well but not this time.
I do suggest using a fabric close to the same color as the edge of the quilt so that the facing blends in with the front of the quilt.
Secure with binding clips.
